On March 27, 2025, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, received His Beatitude John X, Patriarch of the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch and All the East, at the Lusail Palace. The Antiochian delegation included Metropolitan Athanasius of Latakia (Fahd) and Archimandrite Parthenios (Al-Lati).
The main topic of the meeting was the discussion of the situation in the Middle East, especially in Syria and Lebanon. Patriarch John X emphasized the important role of Qatar and the personal efforts of the Emir in aiding the region's recovery after recent crises. The historical role of Christian presence in the Middle East was also highlighted during the conversation.
The Emir of Qatar expressed support for the activities of the Antiochian Orthodox Church and highly appreciated its contribution to the development of religious brotherhood between different confessions. He also reaffirmed Qatar’s unwavering support for the Antiochian Church in addressing the challenges it faces.
During his visit to Qatar, on March 28, 2025, Patriarch John X led the fourth service with an akathist in the Church of Saints Isaac and George. He was joined by Metropolitan Athanasius of Latakia and Metropolitan Makarios from the Jerusalem Patriarchate.
After the service, Patriarch John X sent a message of brotherly love to Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, emphasizing the role of the Most Holy Theotokos as a unifying figure for both Christians and Muslims. He noted that the Christian presence in the Middle East has deep historical roots: "We are not foreigners, but the indigenous people of this land. Christ was born in Palestine; He lived in Jerusalem and entrusted us with the Gospel of salvation." The Patriarch emphasized the responsibility to pass on the apostolic faith from generation to generation.
