The funds that the Moscow parishes saved on the purchase of flowers for the birthday of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia will be used to purchase medical equipment for the Central Clinical Hospital of St. Alexy, Metropolitan of Moscow.
This decision was made with the blessing of His Holiness the Patriarch. Since 2016, the Russian Orthodox Church has been operating a practice according to which the traditional presentation of flowers to the Primate on holidays has been replaced by targeted fundraising for charitable needs. Over the years, these funds were used to purchase medical equipment for St. Alexy's Hospital, and in 2017, to help residents of Syria.
On May 24, 2026, congratulating His Holiness the Patriarch on behalf of the bishops and clergy of the city of Moscow, Metropolitan Gregory of Voskresensk, Managing Director of the Moscow Patriarchate, First Vicar of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia in Moscow, announced that this year the funds raised had been transferred back to St. Alexy's Hospital.
They plan to purchase modern equipment for sterilization of premises, as well as for early rehabilitation of patients in intensive care. This decision continues the established tradition, in which holiday greetings become a concrete help to those who need treatment and medical support.
The funds saved by the Moscow parishes on flowers for the day of the Patriarch's namesake were sent to St. Alexy's Hospital.
