On March 12, the Sakhalin Regional Art Museum hosted the exhibition "Ancient Russian Art of the XII – XVI centuries", which presents unique copies of ancient Russian frescoes and icons from the legacy of Adolf Ovchinnikov and the collection of the Sakhalin Regional Art Museum.
The exhibition is organized by the Sakhalin Regional Art Museum with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Archival Affairs of the Sakhalin Region, the All-Russian Art Research and Restoration Center named after him. Academician I. E. Grabar and the Mikhail Abramov Society for the Promotion of the Preservation and Popularization of Russian Culture.
Archbishop Nikanor of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Kuril addressed the participants of the event with a welcoming speech.
For the first time in Sakhalin, the project will widely present the scientific work and art of restoration artists who preserve Russia's cultural heritage. 40 years of experience in the field of studying monuments of ancient Russian art at the Sakhalin Regional Art Museum has revealed a great interest of visitors to the origins of Russian art, its preservation and popularization. Sakhalin has a unique collection of 30 copies of ancient non-Russian frescoes from the 11th to 17th centuries, created in the 1970s and 1990s in the workshop of A.K. Krylov (I.E. Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture).
It should be noted that exhibition projects dedicated to the legacy of A.N. Ovchinnikov have already been held at the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Far Eastern Art Museum in Khabarovsk, and the National Art Museum of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), attracting great interest from the audience.
