One year has passed since the Ukrainian Armed Forces invaded the Kursk region. On August 6, 2025, funeral services were held in all churches and monasteries of the Kursk Metropolitanate with the blessing of Metropolitan Herman of Kursk and Rila for the soldiers and civilians who fell during the defense and liberation of the Kursk region, and memorial bells rang.
The head of the Kursk Archdiocese celebrated the Liturgy at the Resurrection Church of the Monastery of the Sign in Kursk. The church was attended by the acting governor of the Kursk region, A.E. Khinstein, representatives of the regional government and the City Assembly, as well as residents of the border region who had lost their loved ones.
After the liturgy, Bishop Herman addressed the worshippers with words of support and stressed that these were not only days of grief and despair, but also of courage, spiritual uplift and firmness.
A.E. Khinshtein noted that today Kursk land has been liberated, but it takes time to restore the affected areas: unfortunately, it is still unsafe there, and the Russian army is doing everything to make the sky peaceful as soon as possible.
Funeral services were held in all churches and monasteries of the Kursk Metropolis.
