The presentation of the Orthodox Book Day was held at the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Vung Tau of the Philippine-Vietnamese Diocese.
The holiday is timed to coincide with the memorable historical date of the release of Ivan Fedorov's first dated printed book "The Apostle" in Russia, which was published on March 14, 1564. The decision to celebrate Orthodox Book Day was made on November 18, 2009 at the first meeting of the general meeting of the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, chaired by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. On December 25, 2009, the Holy Synod established a church-wide celebration of Orthodox Book Day.
Orthodox Book Day is held annually in all dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The presentation was conducted by a leading specialist of the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, Priest Andrey Stepanov.
The priest spoke about the activities of the Publishing Council and handed over a Catechism in Vietnamese to the parish library, as well as presented Orthodox Book Review magazines to all participants of the event.
On this day, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, which was led by Archpriest Vladimir Chuvikin, rector of the Patriarchal Compound of the temples of the former Nikolo-Perervinsky Monastery in Moscow. He was co-served by the dean of the Vietnamese district, Priest Evgeny Tsukalo and Priest Andrey Stepanov.
At the end of the service, Father Vladimir delivered a sermon on the importance of keeping faith and visiting the temple to thank God for all the benefits in life.
