After 65 years, light has once again been illuminated in the flooded lighthouse church in Krohino, thanks to donations from the "Krohino" charitable foundation. Extensive conservation work was carried out last summer and autumn, which included restoring the inter-floor wooden ceilings and stairs, allowing access to all levels. A solar panel was installed during the construction of the roof.

"This light is the result of the participation of many people in the fate of the Krohino lighthouse church: more than 600 people supported this project with their donations. Usually, architectural monuments are illuminated from the outside to highlight the beauty of architectural forms and harmony of proportions. But the Krohino bell tower 'shines' from within – and this is not just lighting. It is the embodiment of inner warmth and light, our indifference to the fate of heritage," the foundation "Krohino" explained.

In June of this year, volunteers from the "Severstal" company installed electrical wiring in the bell tower. Donor funds enabled the purchase of light fixtures for each tier. The project, supported by over 600 people, raised funds on the Planeta platform. Now, warm light shines from every window of the Krohino bell tower.

The Church of the Nativity of Christ is the only remaining structure from the village of Krohino in the Belozersky District of the Vologda Region, which was flooded in the early 1960s during the construction of the Volga-Baltic Waterway. The church avoided destruction because a lighthouse for the flooded area was installed inside it. For several decades, the waters of the Sheksna River eroded its walls, and by the early 2000s, the building began to collapse. The "Center for the Revival of Cultural Heritage 'Krohino'" charitable foundation, initiated by Moscow resident Anor Tukaeva in 2010, took on the task of saving the church. Over the past 12 years, volunteers have cleared the debris of the collapsed walls and created an engineering shoreline protection for the church island, safeguarding the church's walls from the impact of waves and ice.
