On the Day of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, in Volzhsky, according to a tradition that dates back more than a dozen years, a procession took place.
Its organizer, the Kalachevo diocese, invited everyone to participate. And there were a lot of them. There have been a record number of marchers in recent years. And this is despite the bad weather — sleet. It began when everyone was gathering at the church of the New Martyrs of Russia (hospital town). Bishop John of Kalachevo and Pallasovo celebrated the Liturgy here, and after it led the procession.

The priests of the Volga churches and parishioners also walked in the column. For the first time, they were joined by servicemen from a military unit stationed on Zeleny Island. 
A mobile belfry has also become a feature of the current procession. It was installed on a car, and the bells rang joyfully throughout the neighborhood.
The Crusaders were greeted by passing Volga residents, they were also waved affably from the windows by residents of houses, and someone even joined the procession on the way. According to the calculations of the priests, at the beginning of the Procession there were about 2,200 townspeople, and in the cathedral church of St. John the Theologian their number has already reached about 2.5 thousand. 
— The feast of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God can be called great, because all the people have been honoring it since ancient times, — said Bishop John of Kalachevsky and Pallasov. – And today is a civil holiday – National Unity Day, which has been celebrated since 2005. And the procession in some ways showed our unity, first of all Orthodox Christians. I think that everyone who watched our march was also happy. This is a good sign, it means that people approve of the manifestation of our Orthodox faith. I congratulate everyone and wish God's help, the protection of the Mother of God over all of us, our city, over the whole Earth. May this veil of the Mother of God extend over us in the future.
