Scientists of the Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy are taking part in a two-day event "Monastic Compound" organized by the Russian Orthodox Church and dedicated to the organization of agricultural activities of monasteries.
Archimandrite Stefan (Tarakanov), Chairman of the Interdepartmental Commission on the Education of Monastics of the Russian Orthodox Church, welcomed more than 290 students from various monasteries in Russia. He noted that this year the seminar is being held for the second time, the number of participants has increased more than one and a half times compared to last year.
The greeting of the rector of the Timiryazev Academy, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor V.I. Trukhachev, was announced by Professor S.L. Belopukhov. The greeting says that the seminar is a landmark event, because nowadays spirituality, an appeal to one's historical roots, and the memory of one's ancestors are becoming an important part of the educational process.
On the first day of the educational event, the students gained knowledge about soils, soil fertility, fertilizers and agrochemicals, plant protection products and plant growth regulators, works that must be carried out to obtain high and high-quality yields in monastery gardens, vegetable gardens, greenhouses in both traditional and organic agriculture. The lectures on the "smart" vegetable garden and garden, homestead farm, poultry house, apiary aroused great interest among the audience.
An excursion to the beekeeping department and the educational and production apiary was organized for the students from the monasteries, they also visited the vegetable station, the fruit growing laboratory and the Michurinsky Garden.
The second day of the seminar is organized in a remote format; participants have the opportunity to ask their questions to the relevant departments of the university.
Archimandrite Stefan and the students from the monasteries noted the high level of teaching skills of the specialists of the Timiryazev Academy, the quality, accessibility and practical orientation of the lecture material.
