The police cordoned off the Holy Epiphany Convent of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in the Ternopil region in western Ukraine to close the monastery and evict the monks. This was reported by the Union of Orthodox Journalists (SPJ).
According to him, the police have cordoned off the monastery and allow people to enter the monastery only with a passport. The SPJ published a photo with police officers standing at the entrance to one of the buildings of the monastery, as well as a video with a large number of law enforcement vehicles.
The Union also posted on its Telegram channel statements of the monastery of the UOC, according to which it has been on this territory for 32 years. The last lease agreement between the UOC monastery and the Kremenets-Pochaev State Historical and Architectural Reserve was concluded in 2018 for five years, its validity expired on September 3, 2023. Back on August 1, the monastery appealed to the Ministry of Culture with a request to extend the lease for five years, but no response was received. In its statement, the UOC also asked the reserve not to evict the organization until the lease agreement was renegotiated, for which the monastery did everything possible.
