The Russian House in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, held the spiritual and educational festival "Orthodox Africa" on September 22, 2023.
The guests of the event — representatives of different faiths — gathered at the Russian House to discuss examples of how peaceful coexistence of religions, religious tolerance and support from the state form the diversity of religious life in the country, prevent the formation of false views, values and spiritual intolerance.
The festival program included a tour of the exhibition of Orthodox icons and a viewing of the Russian feature film "The Tsar" (directed by P. Lungin, 2009).
The event was opened by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Tanzania Andrey Avetisyan, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa Metropolitan Leonid of Klin and Metropolitan Vikenty of Tashkent and Uzbekistan addressed the guests with a video message and greetings.
A representative of the official Tanzanian interfaith organization, Sheikh Kundecha, and a cleric of the Patriarchal Exarchate in Tanzania, the head of the educational center, Father Konstantin, also addressed the audience.
To prevent religious discord, attacks and persecution of believers and clergy, together to form a comfortable spiritual atmosphere and respect for the religious feelings of fellow citizens — these calls were made in the greetings of the speakers, the website of the Russian Embassy in Tanzania reports.
