According to tradition, on Easter night, a Holy Fire was brought to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior from the Church of the Resurrection of Christ (the Holy Sepulchre) in Jerusalem, which descended on the Holy Sepulchre on that day. The Holy Fire was delivered to Moscow by a delegation headed by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation V.I. Yakunin and the chairman of the Synodal Missionary Department, the vicar of the Vysoko-Petrovsky Stavropol Monastery, Bishop Euthymius of Lukhovitsky.
Receiving the Holy Fire, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill said:
"According to the tradition that has already developed, on Easter Night, through the efforts of the Andrew the First-Called Foundation and its head Vladimir Ivanovich Yakunin, the Holy Fire is brought from the Holy Sepulchre to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, lit in the kuvuklia of the Holy Sepulchre.
We accept this shrine with a special feeling, because each of us has a special relationship with the Holy Sepulchre, with the place where the great miracle of deliverance from sin and the curse of death took place. And this fire is a visible sign connecting our Church and our people with the Holy Land and with the Holy Sepulchre.
I thank you for bringing the shrine and ask you to light the lamps from this shrine."
His Holiness lit candles from the Holy Fire, which were handed over to the participants of the divine service.
To the singing of the stichera "Thy Resurrection, O Christ the Saviour", a procession was made around the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.
According to tradition, after singing the Easter canon at the altar, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, bishops and clergy changed their white vestments to red ones.

According to the holy verse, Archpriest Mikhail Ryazantsev read out the Easter Message of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill to the archpastors, pastors, monastics and all the faithful children of the Russian Orthodox Church.
After the prayer of the prayer, the Primate of the Russian Church consecrated artos.
At the end of the service, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill once again congratulated the faithful on Easter:
"All of you, honorable lords, dear fathers, brothers and sisters, I cordially congratulate you on the greatest, most beautiful, brightest celebration on earth! Happy Easter, happy Resurrection of the Savior, happy day when we glorify His victory over evil, over unrighteousness, over the devil.
Each of us in life faces difficulties, injustice, insults, sorrows, and all this sometimes hurts us very much. Sometimes it is so strong that a person loses his life guidelines, inspiration to live and work. After all, we go through many temptations, and it often leaves deep scars on our soul.
Or maybe you don't have to worry so much about all this? Maybe, as believers, we should remember that the evil that stings us like flies or wasps is not really capable of destroying us. Because only the devil could truly destroy a man, and he was defeated. The Lord dealt with evil spirits and limited its effect on humans. That's why our sorrows are really insect bites, maybe very unpleasant, tedious, annoying, but unable to destroy us. On one condition: if we believe that the Lord came for our salvation, if we believe in His saving power, if we are with Him, then no human evil force is capable of destroying our inner spiritual life, and in most cases, our earthly life.
Therefore, the Christian faith is a faith filled with special optimism, but not caring, not emotional, but proceeding from the immutable fact that evil has been destroyed, evil has lost its power and ability to truly destroy the human race. It can bite, it can scald, it can offend, but it cannot destroy!
We learn all this on the great world—saving bright holiday of Christ's victory over the devil, over death - His great, holy and so significant resurrection from the dead for the entire human history.
May the Lord help us to strengthen our faith, in the consciousness that we belong to the chosen family, which the Lord Himself chose — first in the person of the disciples, and we, continuing the work of the disciples, accepting faith in the Lord, and continue their service. We, whom the Lord has chosen to serve Him, so that faith in Him will preserve our lives from all evil and, spreading around us, transform this world.
May the Risen Savior protect us all! Today we especially pray for our Russian country, which is going through difficult, and maybe fateful trials. We ask the Lord to protect the sacred borders of our land. But at the same time, we must also pray for the authorities and for the army, for those who today, in a time of peace for us, lose not only their health, but also their lives, defending the Fatherland. May the Lord stop this internecine warfare, may He strengthen in good health and preserve from all evil those who serve our Fatherland and all of us today. And through these trials, he will further strengthen our faith in the Lord, our hope in Him and the power of our prayer.
I greet all of you, my dear ones, again and again on the great world-saving feast of Christ's Resurrection and proclaim the solemn greeting coming from the apostles: Christ is Risen! Amen to that."
