With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the multimedia exhibition "Golgotha Patriarch Tikhon", dedicated to his confessional feat on October 9, 2025, opened in the Historical Park "Russia — My Story" at VDNH in Moscow (Pavilion 57).
The exhibition, prepared by the Patriarchal Council for Culture, reflects the life of St. Tikhon from birth to his blessed death. Special attention is paid to the Patriarchal ministry, which took place during the tragic years of Russian history — from 1917 to 1925. Historical texts, photo and video materials have been specially prepared for the exhibition: collages, computer graphics, video mapping, presented using projections, touch interactive screens, interactive books and kinects.
The opening ceremony was preceded by a round-table meeting of church and secular historians and experts, which was led by the Patriarchal Vicar of the Moscow Metropolitanate, Metropolitan Pavel of Krutitsy and Kolomna, co-chairman of the Organizing Committee for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the blessed repose of St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow.
Vladyka Pavel conveyed to the audience the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill for the opening of the exhibition, which should help visitors understand and realize the feat that St. Tikhon undertook and worthily carried out during the harsh times of persecution. The bishop recalled the words of the Apostle Paul: "Remember your mentors who preached the word of God to you, and, looking at the end of their lives, imitate their faith" (Heb 13:7), and noted that they accurately characterize the life and ministry of His Holiness Patriarch Tikhon, who preached the Gospel on two continents and suffered serious trials, sufferings, oppression and imprisonment, but he did not renounce either God or the Patriarchal dignity, to which he was forced in every possible way. That is why the centenary of his death is celebrated as a triumph of victory over death, and the saint himself now stands before the Throne of God for each of us and for the entire Russian Orthodox Church.
At the end of the round table, the message from the dean of the Sretensky Stavropol Monastery in Moscow, Hieromonk Athanasius (Deryugin), was dedicated to preserving the memory of Patriarch Tikhon in the Church and among the faithful in the 1960s - 1980s. It was a period when a significant part of the people who knew the saint personally went to the Lord, when the Soviet government tried to strictly control the entire life of the Church. But at the same time, the memory of the saint and his veneration were observed at various social levels. For example, in the issues of the Journal of the Moscow Patriarchate in the 1960s, materials about Patriarch Tikhon were occasionally published, some of his merits were recognized, but only casually mentioned his Patriarchate, which the Soviet government was extremely dissatisfied with. However, with all the forced caution of the publicists, his memory has never been tarnished anywhere. In the 1970s, mentions of His Holiness the Patriarch became more frequent and regular reports were published about funeral services on the day of his repose. In the 1980s, there were more and more testimonies about the veneration of the Patriarch, and unequivocally positive assessments were given to him in publications. And at the end of the decade, work began on the preparation of the canonization of St. Tikhon, and, according to some respected clergymen, it was unexpectedly initiated by representatives of the state authorities. Thus, on the one hand, there could be no official open veneration of Patriarch Tikhon, on the other hand, veneration among the people continued. The memory of the Patriarch was preserved among believers and passed down from the older generation to the younger. His name was often found in notes sent "for the repose", the flow of pilgrimages to the Donskoy Monastery in Moscow to his grave did not dry up, his photographs were reverently treated like icons, through prayers to him people received help and relief from their illnesses and circumstances. Therefore, the canonization that took place in 1989 only confirmed the holiness of Patriarch Tikhon, which the Russian Orthodox Church has always known and remembered.
After the round table meeting, the participants became the first visitors to the newly opened exhibition, and a detailed tour of the exposition was conducted for them.
In addition to representatives of the scientific community, the creative intelligentsia, students and seminarians, the participants of the round table were volunteers of the Patriarchal Humanitarian Mission, whose ministry is associated with providing assistance to injured civilians in the SVR zone. Their activities include repairing destroyed housing, caring for the sick and injured, and caring for lonely people.
