An excursion to the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg was held for the children of the orphanage as part of the Days of Spiritual Culture of Russia in the Republic of South Africa.
Archpriest Daniel Lugovoy, dean of the parishes of the South African Diocese in South Africa, rector of St. Sergius Church, warmly welcomed the children and conducted an excursion. He spoke about the peculiarities of the structure and symbolism of the Orthodox church, the life of St. Sergius of Radonezh and Orthodox traditions. The Easter Gospel was read in six languages during the divine service.
St. Sergius Church in Johannesburg is the largest community of the Russian Church in South Africa. The first Russian parish appeared in the country in the late 1950s, and the church of St. Sergius of Radonezh was built in 2003. After the establishment of the Patriarchal Exarchate in Africa in 2018, several other parishes joined the Russian Church in South Africa. Divine services in the temples of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa in the country are held in three languages: Church Slavonic, English and Afrikaans - the language of South African Boers, descendants of Dutch, French and German farmers who migrated to South Africa in the XVII century.
The Days of Russian Spiritual Culture were held in the Republic of South Africa for the first time in early September.
