On June 3, 2026, the All–Russian Scientific Conference "The Russian Orthodox Church, the Cossacks and Power in the history of Russia in the XIX-XXI centuries" was held at the Yekaterinodar Theological Seminary in Krasnodar.
The event was organized by Yekaterinodar Theological Seminary in cooperation with Kuban State University. The conference was attended by scientists, clergy, teachers, undergraduates and researchers from different regions of Russia.
The conference was timed to coincide with several memorable dates: the 50th anniversary of the episcopal consecration of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the 20th anniversary of the revival of the Yekaterinodar Theological Seminary and the 330th anniversary of the Kuban Cossack Army.
Rector of Yekaterinodar Theological Seminary Priest Andrey Kretov, Vice-rector of Kuban State University N.V. Redkin and Vice-rector of the Seminary for Scientific and methodological work A.A. Ostapenko addressed the participants with welcoming words.
During the plenary session, reports were presented on the spiritual and moral values of the Cossacks, the role of Orthodoxy in the history of Russian statehood, the theological understanding of the phenomenon of the Russian Cossacks, the church history of Southern Russia and the North Caucasus, as well as the fate of bishops and church leaders of the XIX–XX centuries.
The presentation of the book by A.V. Pecherin "Yekaterinodar Parish Theological College", which presents new materials on the history of spiritual education in Yekaterinodar, attracted special attention of the participants.
After the plenary session, the conference continued in three sections. The participants discussed the interaction of the Church and the Cossacks, topical issues of the history of the Russian Orthodox Church, religious and philosophical thought in Russia, issues of missionary work, church education, preservation of shrines and spiritual heritage.
The conference was held in face-to-face format with the possibility of remote connection.
In conclusion, the organizers thanked the participants for their fruitful work and expressed hope for further cooperation in studying and preserving the historical heritage of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Cossacks and the Russian statehood.
The reports of the participants will be published in the Chrysostom journal, which is included in the church-wide list of peer-reviewed publications.
