On the Day of Heroes of the Fatherland in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, a memorial was opened in honor of the Sakhalin heroes who fell during a special military operation.
The opening ceremony of the memorial complex in Khristoforovka was attended by the governor of the Sakhalin region Valery Limarenko, Archbishop Nikanor of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Kurilsky, the head of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Sergey Nadsadin, relatives of the fallen soldiers, representatives of authorities, clergy, military personnel, Regardie, volunteers.
Archbishop Nikanor performed the first funeral service at the memorial and addressed the audience with an archpastoral address, calling for the prayerful memory of the courage and heroism of the fallen soldiers to be preserved forever.
Then the participants honored the memory of Sakhalin defenders with a minute of silence. A military band performed the anthem of Russia, and after volleys of weapons from the honor guard company, the monument was declared open.
The relatives and friends of the Sakhalin soldiers took part in the creation of the memorial. A sketch of a four-meter obelisk was discussed and coordinated with them. The monument was started this summer, and in parallel, the graves of fallen soldiers were landscaped according to the unified standard of military graves. The administration plans to build an Orthodox chapel next to the memorial.
