According to an August 2024 survey conducted by Gallup International Balkan, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church enjoys a 43.1% approval rating, making it one of the most trusted institutions in the country. However, 35.8% of respondents expressed distrust in the Church. The survey, which sampled 802 adults across Bulgaria, highlights the Church's significant role in the nation’s cultural and religious landscape.

The Bulgarian Orthodox Church is not only viewed as a religious entity but also as a cornerstone of national and historical identity. According to the data, 75.3% of Bulgarians identify as Orthodox Christians, yet only 59.5% profess belief in God. Media reports suggest that Orthodoxy is deeply tied to Bulgarian society and statehood, reinforcing its role in shaping the nation’s identity.

The survey also revealed that about 20% of Bulgarians regularly attend religious services. Trust in the Church is lower among younger generations. Despite this, the newly appointed Patriarch Daniel received a positive approval rating of 30.6%, surpassing his disapproval rating of 27%. Approximately 19.8% of the population remains unfamiliar with him, indicating a need for increased public engagement.

These findings are consistent with similar data from two years ago, showing that public sentiment towards the Church has remained relatively stable.
