On October 2, 2024, the Orthodox Theological Faculty of Belgrade University hosted an "Evening of Russian Culture," according to tvhram.rs. The event featured Russian spiritual, folk, and patriotic music, poetry, and a photography exhibition dedicated to the natural beauty of Northern Russia. The evening was part of a project funded by the St. Tikhon Foundation, titled “Russian-Serbian Friendship: Historical, Cultural, and Spiritual Bonds in Youth Songs,” marking the 100th anniversary of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Belgrade.
Professors and students from the Orthodox St. Tikhon University in Moscow delivered presentations highlighting the centuries-old friendship between Russia and Serbia, exploring the rich cultural and religious heritage shared by the two nations. The project also included visits by students and faculty to Serbian holy sites, monasteries, and cultural institutions such as Matica Srpska and St. Arsenius Seminary.
The Russian Culture evenings, held from September 30 to October 7 in Belgrade, are part of a series of events designed to foster greater understanding of Russian culture among Serbian youth and older generations. Organizers believe these creative gatherings will showcase the historical closeness of the two nations, Russia’s role in global conflicts, and the enduring tradition of Russian-Serbian friendship.
"History is full of examples of the closeness between our countries. In the 19th century, the Russian Empire actively supported Serbia’s liberation from Ottoman rule, and in the 20th century, Serbia welcomed Russian émigrés after the revolution. In 1924, Russian émigrants founded the Holy Trinity Church in Belgrade, which became a metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in 1946. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the metochion’s establishment," stated a representative from the Russian World Foundation, one of the event's organizers.
