On August 12, King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X) and Queen Suthida of Thailand granted an audience to clergy from the Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia's Thailand Diocese, according to the Exarchate's press service. The meeting took place in the Throne Hall of the Ananda Samakhom Palace in Bangkok.

During the audience, Father Daniel Vanna reported to His Majesty the King, and Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) presented the King with a congratulatory message from the Orthodox community in Thailand on the occasion of his 72nd birthday. The Patriarchal Exarch of Southeast Asia, Metropolitan Sergius, blessed the clergy to present the King with a portrait of himself, painted by the renowned artist Alexander Osipov. This gesture underscored the strong ties between the Orthodox community in Thailand and the royal family.

Earlier in June, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited the St. Nicholas Cathedral in Bangkok, the main church of the Thailand Diocese, further highlighting the relationship between the Orthodox Church and the Thai monarchy.

The first parish in the Thailand Diocese was established in 1999. Today, the country is home to ten Orthodox parishes, the Dormition Monastery in Ratchaburi Province, and a theological school on Phuket Island.
