Russian Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) Congress on Social Service will begin in Moscow on Sunday for the eleventh time, its work will be headed by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, said the chairman of the Synodal Department of the Russian Orthodox Church for Charity, head of the Patriarchal humanitarian Mission Bishop Panteleimon of Verey (Shatov).
"This is a very important and significant event for us. The work of the congress will be headed by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, who actually directs the entire social work of the Church. It is with his blessing that every major parish has social workers," he said at a press conference dedicated to the congress at the International Multimedia Press Center "Russia Today", mentioning that Patriarch Kirill once became the first patriarch to go to a meeting with the homeless.
Vasily Rulinsky, the spokesman for the Synodal Department of the Russian Orthodox Church for Charity, noted at a press conference that the congress will be one of the largest.
The congress will be held in Moscow from November 12 to 15. More than a thousand people from Russia and other countries will take part in it: heads of charitable organizations, social departments of dioceses and sisterhoods of mercy. The main topic will be assistance to refugees and victims in the SVO zone, including in hospitals and hospitals. The participants of the congress will also discuss issues of assistance to the homeless, orphans, people with disabilities, alcohol and drug addicts.
More than 1,100 people, including from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, will take part in the ROC congress on social service.
