On November 28, the hierarch of the Jerusalem Orthodox Church, Archbishop Theodosius of Sebaste, visited the Russian Spiritual Mission in Jerusalem, where he was met by the head of the mission, Archimandrite Vassian (Zmeev). Archbishop Theodosius said that the Jerusalem Church stands in solidarity with the Russian Church on the issue of the Ukrainian schism, the RDM press service reports,
"During the conversation, Archbishop Theodosius assured the head of the mission of the unwavering solidarity of the Jerusalem Patriarchate with the canonical position of the Russian Orthodox Church on the issue of church disorders taking place in Ukraine, and noted that the Jerusalem Church will never enter into Eucharistic communion with schismatics," the Mission's press service said.
Archbishop Theodosius of Sebaste wished Archimandrite Vassian blessed service as head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem and God's gracious help in carrying out such responsible obedience in such difficult times for the Holy Land.
Archimandrite Vassian thanked Archbishop Theodosius for the kind words he had said and stressed that the Russian Orthodox Church and the Jerusalem Orthodox Church currently bear the same cross – the burden of the deepest sorrow for the innocent victims of military operations in Ukraine and the Middle East, but the joint prayer of the two Sister Churches for peace will certainly be heard.
