Russian Orthodox Youth Conference in Florida

The Traditional St. Herman Youth Conference of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR) convened on December 24-25th at the St. Luke of Crimea church in Pompano Beach, Florida.

His Eminence Gabriel, Archbishop of Montreal and Canada, and Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, greeted the participants with the ancient Kursk Root Icon of the Blessed Virgin. This icon, taken from the homeland by Russian refugees over a hundred years ago, serves now as a visible symbol of unity in spirit among the Orthodox faithful in Russia and all over the globe.

The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Sampson Nash on Orthodoxy and Bioethics. The next lecture was offered by Archpriest Seraphim Chemodakov on the subject of Psychotherapy and Orthodoxy. In the evening, Bishop Nicholas officiated the all-night vigil in the presence of the Kursk Root icon of Our Lady.

On the next morning, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Eminence Archbishop Gabriel, in concelebration with Bishop Nicholas and a large number of local and visiting clergy. Before Holy Communion, Fr. Nicholas Bargoot delivered a sermon. Nearly all of the participants received the Holy Gifts of Christ.

The conference concluded later that evening during a cruise through the Florida Intercoastal Waterway, sponsored by the Lukianov family.
