During his visit to the People's Republic of China on May 17, 2024, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin visited the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in 1930, in Harbin.
Currently, it is the only functioning Orthodox church in the city where regular divine services are held. The rector of the parish is Priest Alexander Yu Shi, a graduate of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy. In May 2013, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated the Divine Liturgy in this church.
The head of the Russian state inspected the temple, bowed to its shrines, and put candles to the icons.
As a memorial gift, Vladimir Putin gave the parish the image of the "Savior Not Made with Hands", made by Russian icon painters.
The President of Russia presented an icon to the Pokrovsky Temple in the Chinese city of Harbin
