On September 13, 2024, Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church-Society and Media Relations, Professor at MGIMO, member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation V.R. Legoyda moderated the discussion "Ethics of using Artificial Intelligence in Culture and Art", which took place at the X St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum.
V.R. Legoyda, opening the session, shared the thoughts of the outstanding Russian scientist Yu.M. Lotman, who said that time must pass for technology to become a culture. According to the moderator, due to the rapid technological development, the thesis that technology should become a culture is extremely relevant today.
The panelists comprehensively discussed various issues related to the use of artificial intelligence in culture and art, including both new opportunities and serious challenges and risks for humans.
A.V. Zhuravsky, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of the Russian Federation for Public Projects, spoke about possible measures to regulate this area at the state level. The importance of labeling content created using neural networks was noted.
Honored Artist of Buryatia Z.B. Dorzhiev shared his thoughts on the relationship between artificial intelligence and human creativity. The speaker touched upon the issue of self-creation of works of art by neural networks, the difficulty of determining in some cases who created the work, and what can be considered genuine art.
During the discussion, the participants talked about how the field of museum art is changing today under the influence of artificial intelligence, and also learned about domestic developments in the field of creating content for neural networks.
Experts paid special attention to the most important issue of the possibility of using neural networks in children's education, the impact of AI on children's perception and creativity, and the need to regulate children's access to social networks and artificial intelligence.
Habib Mohammed Hussein, Associate Professor at the Addis Ababa University of Science and Technology, shared his view on the impact of artificial intelligence on education, in particular, the relevance of written works that neural networks generate very quickly and efficiently today.
At the end of the session, the speakers discussed the need to create an ethical code in the field of artificial intelligence, noting that the main problem is related to the fact that a person wants to use AI outside the ethical field in the most important sphere of influence on human minds.
