In the Kalininsky district of the Tver region, the construction of the chapel of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village of Vidogoschi continues – the first stage of the revival of the former church here, destroyed in the 1930s. Once there was the Nikolsky Vidogorsky monastery, which is mentioned in a letter of 1526. In 1681, the monastery, along with the patrimony, was assigned to the Donskoy Monastery. In 1710, the monastery had one wooden church in the name of Nicholas the Wonderworker, seven monks and a groom lived here. After 1728, the monastery was closed, and the monks were taken to the Medvedev Desert.
– In 1881, a new stone church was consecrated in the village of Vidogoschi, – said the Tver diocese. – Today, the site of the former temple is a high hill in the middle of the village, overgrown with trees and shrubs with the remains of the foundations of the destroyed temple. Nearby there is an ancient cemetery dating back to monastic times.
In 2005, an initiative group of local residents decided to revive the temple, the lands were transferred to the church. It is planned that the construction of the chapel of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker will be completed this year. In May, Archpriest Andrey Egorov, rector of the Church of the Sign of the village of Savvatievo, consecrated the cross, which was re-installed on the dome of the chapel.
