The Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, Metropolitan Constantine of Cairo and North Africa, visited the Archangel Michael Parish in the village of Gulu in northern Uganda on December 11, the Exarchate’s official website reported.

During his visit, Metropolitan Constantine blessed a newly drilled water well. The project, completed in late autumn, was funded through donations collected via the Exarchate’s official website. Thanks to the new well, the parish community and local residents — including many children and elderly people — now have access to clean drinking water. Previously, villagers were forced to rely on a distant and polluted water source also used by livestock.

Clergy and parishioners expressed their gratitude to all benefactors who contributed to the fundraising effort.

In addition to the well blessing, Metropolitan Constantine performed the rite of blessing for the foundation stone of a future parish school. He also visited a pig farm whose operations help sustain the local community.

Access to safe water remains a pressing issue in Uganda. According to international organizations, a significant portion of the population continues to experience shortages of clean drinking water. Ugandan authorities have announced plans to provide citizens with reliable access to clean water and improved sanitation by 2030.
