Patriarch Kirill of Moscow has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the Kosovo authorities' ban on the entry of the Serbian Church's Primate and hierarchs into Kosovo. This sentiment was conveyed in a letter addressed to Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia.
In his letter, Patriarch Kirill emphasized that the Russian Orthodox Church views the actions of the Kosovo authorities as a hostile gesture towards the Serbian Church, blatantly denying its spiritual and historical significance associated with its centuries-long presence in the Kosovo region.
"The Russian Orthodox Church is deeply concerned about the increasingly dire conditions for the Serbian population in Kosovo and Metohija, the harsh pressure on our defenseless brothers by the Pristina regime's security forces, and the new threats looming over the ancient sanctuaries of Serbian Orthodoxy," stated Patriarch Kirill in his message, which was published on the official website, patriarchia.ru.
Last week, Patriarch Porfirije and seven Serbian Church hierarchs were prevented from entering the Patriarchate of Peć, where the Serbian Church's Episcopal Assembly was scheduled to take place. The hierarchs were stopped at the border and informed that they were banned from entering the region. Consequently, the Assembly was held in Belgrade, and the Serbian Church appealed to the global Christian community for support.
