On February 11, 2025, a general meeting of the clergy of the Moscow Metropolitanate was held in the Cathedral Hall of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, under the chairmanship of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, who is the head of the Moscow Metropolitanate.
Opening the meeting, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church greeted the audience. Metropolitan Pavel of Krutitsky and Kolomna was elected Deputy chairman of the assembly, and Archbishop Axius of Podolsk and Lyubertsy was elected secretary. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill invited Metropolitan Pavel and Archbishop Axius to take their seats on the presidium of the assembly. His Holiness then announced the agenda.
To prepare the final document, the composition of the editorial committee was approved, which included: Archbishop Axius of Podolsk and Lyubertsy (chairman of the editorial committee), Bishop Kirill of Sergiev Posad and Dmitrov, Archpriest Dionysius Kazantsev, Archpriest Peter Ivanov, Priest Vasily Losev, reader Alexander Grishin.
The mandate commission included Bishop Kirill of Sergiev Posad and Dmitrov as chairman, Archpriest Dionysius Kazantsev and reader Pavel Grigoriev.
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia delivered a keynote address.
Then His Holiness answered a question from the clergy about the construction of churches in the Moscow region. "You know that a program for the construction of churches is underway in Moscow. This program is being implemented with church funds, and the main investor is the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia," the Primate noted. — In order for the same thing to happen in the Moscow region, it is necessary that both His Eminence the Metropolitan and the ruling bishops think about it. After all, first of all, everything depends on how much work is going on with people, how much people are willing to sacrifice for construction. The Moscow region, especially the near one, should not lag behind the city of Moscow in this regard — after all, it is one agglomeration. Therefore, I would ask Vladyka Pavel to look into this issue, to clarify where churches are needed, how many churches need to be built, and how much money is needed. Prioritize where temples should be built first and where they can wait. In other words, to do the same work that we did in our time in Moscow: a plan was outlined, priorities were set, and then we began to raise money."
Next, Metropolitan Pavel of Krutitsky and Kolomna made a report, which provided an overview of the activities of the Moscow Archdiocese — intereparchial and diocesan departments — over the past year.
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill thanked Metropolitan Pavel for his presentation: "I have left a very positive impression after hearing your report. If we talk about the Moscow Archdiocese as a whole, then it is like a Local Church — in terms of the number of temples and monasteries, the number of clergy, and the number of believers. And I would especially like to note that all the areas of church life that we now consider to be priorities, which we often talk about, are dynamically developing in the Moscow region. Therefore, I thank you — archpastors, pastors, all our clergy and active laity — for the collective conciliar work that is being carried out in the Moscow region. This is the largest metropolia in the Moscow Patriarchate, and I thank God and all of you for developing all aspects of church life so intensively and systematically. God grant that all this continues, and that the level of interest and activity in the work of the archpastors and pastors of the Moscow Metropolia does not decrease."
Bishop Kirill of Sergiev Posad and Dmitrov said that according to the results of the calculations of the mandate commission, 1,187 people were in the hall, most of the clergy of the Moscow Archdiocese. A small part remained on duty in the main churches of the metropolis.
The report was delivered by the Chairman of the Inter-Diocesan Department for Youth Work, Priest Dimitri Nesterov.
Next, a report was presented by Archpriest Andrey Korobkov, inter-diocesan responsible for family, Motherhood and childhood protection. At the end of his report, Father Andrey asked His Holiness to support the initiative to establish a holiday for Large families with the adoption of a single date for celebration in the Moscow region on October 11, the day of commemoration of the holy spouses of Saints Cyril and Mary of Radonezh, as well as the initiative to adopt the regional law of the Moscow region "On the protection of Pregnant women and the protection of life before Birth".
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill answered notes with questions submitted by the participants of the meeting to the presidium, as well as questions from the audience.
Archbishop Axios of Podolsk and Lyubertsy, Secretary of the Assembly, announced the draft final document. After discussion, the document was adopted.
The meeting, chaired by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, unanimously supported the initiative of the regional branch of the World Russian People's Council in the Moscow Region to adopt a regional law on the protection of pregnant women and the preservation of life before birth, as well as the initiative to establish a large family day on October 11, when the memory of Saints Cyril and Mary of Radonezh is celebrated.
Metropolitan Pavel, on behalf of all the participants of the meeting, warmly thanked His Holiness.
As a gift to the clergy of the Moscow Metropolia, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill handed over the calendar for 2025, "Filling the Day with meaning. The Orthodox Church calendar with spiritual readings for every day" and his book "Living by Faith."
