On January 25, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations (DECR) of the Moscow Patriarchate, arrived in Lebanon for a working visit. The primary goal of the visit was to strengthen inter-Orthodox cooperation and discuss current issues concerning the situation of Christians in the Middle East, as reported by the DECR.

A key event during the visit was Metropolitan Anthony's meeting with His Beatitude John X, Patriarch of Great Antioch and All the East, at the St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology at Balamand University. The delegation included Protopresbyter Nikolai Balashov, Advisor to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus'; Protopresbyter Igor Yakimchuk, Deputy Chairman of the DECR; and Alexander Rudakov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Lebanon.

Metropolitan Anthony conveyed fraternal greetings from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and expressed support for the Antiochian Orthodox Church during this challenging time for the region. The warm and extended discussion covered the plight of Christians in various parts of the world, the prospects for closer collaboration between the Moscow and Antiochian Patriarchates, and the state of inter-Orthodox and inter-Christian relations.

As a token of the meeting, Metropolitan Anthony presented a holy panagia to Patriarch John. The Patriarch of Antioch hosted a dinner in honor of the Russian delegation at the conclusion of the meeting.
