Easter should not be confined to a single day but embraced as a source of spiritual renewal, said Metropolitan Tikhon, primate of the Orthodox Church in America, in his annual Paschal message.

Addressing clergy and believers, Tikhon emphasized that the power of Easter transcends any specific date or season. “Easter cannot be limited; its strength cannot be contained within one day or even a particular time of year,” he said.

In his message, the metropolitan underscored that the Resurrection of Christ is not merely a remembrance of a past event but a living reality that transforms the human understanding of time and existence. He described Easter as an “invasion of eternity into time,” offering believers the opportunity for spiritual renewal here and now.

“Christ is risen, and thus every moment gives us the possibility of a new beginning,” the message states.

Tikhon also pointed to the liturgical tradition of the Church, which reflects this ongoing nature of Easter. The celebration extends beyond a single day through Bright Week, continues until the Feast of the Ascension, and is reaffirmed in every Sunday service throughout the year.

This year, the metropolitan placed particular emphasis on personal spiritual experience, urging believers not to treat Easter as a one-time celebration but to carry its joy and sense of liberation from sin into their daily lives.

“He is ready to raise us today, tomorrow, and every day of our lives,” Tikhon said.

The Orthodox Church in America, which operates in the United States and Canada, follows the Revised Julian calendar for fixed feasts, aligning Christmas with December 25. However, Easter and related observances are calculated according to the traditional Orthodox Paschal cycle and are celebrated this year on April 12, in unity with other Orthodox churches.
