On the feast of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, November 4, 2023, at the end of the Divine Liturgy in the Patriarchal Assumption Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia with the miraculous Kazan Icon of the Mother of God arrived at the Kazan Cathedral on Moscow's Red Square.
His Holiness moved the shrine to the cathedral and placed the miraculous image in a prepared outdoor kiosk located to the right of the altar.
Then the Primate of the Russian Church performed a prayer service in front of the miraculous image. The liturgical hymns were performed by the choir of the Kazan Cathedral (regent — N.V. Zazulina).
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill bowed to the miraculous icon and addressed those gathered in the church with the Primatial word:
"The Queen of Heaven has returned to Her home. Everything looks like a miracle — it would seem that the image was lost forever, it was unknown where, which no one dared to dream about, that he could return to the city of Moscow, returned and settled in the place from where he was abducted.
Many people don't believe in miracles because they don't believe in God. And what is a miracle? A miracle is an action of God's power that is inexplicable from the point of view of human laws, customs, culture, and so on. Something unusual, wonderful or wonderful, as people say, something that does not fit in the mind. In a sense, the return of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God to her home, to this temple, recreated after complete destruction, is undoubtedly a sign of God's mercy for all of us. This means that it is a miracle of God for our people, for our country, for the authorities and the army, for our clergy — for all those who have kept faith in their hearts and are able to turn to God with prayer.
It is very important that here, in this temple, the established tradition of performing the akathist, special prayers before this most pure image, is carefully preserved. So that the temple is filled with pious pilgrims. To make the clergy bear a special responsibility for serving here — a special one, I would like to emphasize! Because you are next to this shrine, thousands and thousands of people will pass through you, and it depends on your word — kind, pastoral, cordial — on your wisdom, on your ability to be patient, with what feeling people will approach this image and, having attached themselves to it, will go out into the world.
We believe and hope that this historic, once destroyed, and then restored temple will remain under the Protection of the Most Pure Queen of Heaven. This image will also exude grace and power on everyone who resorts to it with faith and prayer. And, of course, a special responsibility falls on the clergy, who are here, so that prayers are constantly performed before this image — for our country, for our President, for the Patriarch, for the authorities, for the army, for the clergy, for our people. Because the mercy of God through the Virgin Mary, the Queen of Heaven, through the saints extends to us in response to our faith and our prayer. Water does not flow under a lying stone, and if we do not have an inner movement of the heart, if our faith weakens, if a blasphemous habituation to the shrine arises, then grace does not work.
God grant that the current of grace will be strong, healing and strengthening us. The source of this current is God Himself, through His Most Pure Mother, through saints, through shrines, and at the end of the wire is us. Everyone today is familiar with how electrical communication is carried out, and everyone knows that there must be a source and there must be a receiver. If the receiver is turned off, then there is no current. The Lord does not cease to be a Source even because of our sinfulness, but we often turn off our receiver — as I say, out of ignorance, out of oblivion, out of petrified insensitivity or out of incomprehensible, irrational disbelief in God, when the Lord is denied only because a person cannot grasp all this with his mind: if I do not understand, then, and there is no It…
May the arrival of the Mother of God through Her miraculous image in the very center of Moscow serve to strengthen the faith and piety of our people. And God grant that special prayers may be kindled in this holy temple, as I have already said, for our people, for the authorities, for the army, for the Church and for all those who keep the veneration of the Most Holy Theotokos in their hearts with faith and love."
