On November 28, 2021, the first Divine Liturgy was celebrated in a newly formed Orthodox Christian parish in the Lisbon suburb of Vala do Carregado, with the blessing of Archbishop Nestorius of Madrid and Lisbon, governing the Spanish and Portuguese dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The Liturgy was served by priest Vitaly Gorzov, dispatched to Portugal by the Department for External Church Relations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, to minister to spiritual needs of the Orthodox Ukrainian diaspora.

The new parish has been formed with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev and All Ukraine, with accord of the Archbishop Nestorius of Madrid and Lisbon.

This is the third Ukrainian parish in Portugal. The first two are located in Torres Novas and Braga. The Department for External Church Relations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has been engaged in opening parishes in Ukrainian communities around the world.
