Volunteers of the Peter and Paul Diocese provide assistance after the earthquake that occurred in Kamchatka on July 30, 2025. The Holy Trinity Cathedral in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky has a humanitarian warehouse for those in need, Daria Albu, head of the diocesan information department, told RIA Novosti.
"There have been tremors all day, and even now they are slowly subsiding. But to the temple (Holy Trinity Cathedral. — Editor's note) they can apply: our temple was open, and volunteers worked on the spot. We have a humanitarian warehouse in the cathedral, and we provide food assistance. Anyone who needs help can come to the temple. It's evening now, of course, but tomorrow people can come quietly if they need to," Daria Albu said.
In the churches of the Peter and Paul diocese, including the Holy Trinity Cathedral and the Naval Cathedral in honor of Archangel Michael, divine services are held according to schedule, prayers are offered for deliverance from earthquakes.
On July 30, the strongest earthquake with a magnitude of 8.7 occurred since 1952, a tsunami threat was declared, residents were urged not to approach the shore in dangerous areas. By evening, the tsunami threat was lifted. The government of the Sakhalin Region announced that an emergency regime was introduced in the North Kuril region after the earthquake and tsunami.
