The opening of winter roads — self—leveling ice roads, is a time of active missionary activity in Chukotka, since the effect of winter roads is only two or three months, depending on the weather. During this short period, it is necessary to go around all available national villages, because after the closure of winter roads, the way there lies only by air, by helicopter.
On February 18, after Sunday Divine Liturgy in the Church of the New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church in Pevek, Hieromonk Dionysius Osipov and the church's clergy made their first trip this year to the national village of Rytkuchi, with a missionary pastoral visit. Thanks to a parishioner with a large transport, the Orthodox believers of Chaun were visited not only by the priest, but also by novice Alexy Dotsenko, the altar boy of the temple, the boy Dimitri and the caretaker of the temple, Maria Shkabura. Baptism, general confession, pictorial and Communion of the Holy Sacraments of Christ were performed in the building of the Chaunsky Recreation Center. Then, while Father Dionysius was making house-to-house visits, consecrating apartments, uncovering the sick, confessing and receiving communion, the Orthodox believers of the village of Rytkuchi had a warm spiritual conversation about the church life of Pevek, about the holy New Martyrs and the church of the indigenous population with representatives of the Chaunsky deanery, over hot tea with national treats. The first missionary trip was held To the Glory of the Lord Jesus Christ, there is already a good confident ice road, despite the fresh cracks in the sea through which the winter road passes. "This should not be an abysmal event, it should be a stable norm when a priest regularly visits the deanery entrusted to him!" said Father Dionysius.
