In 2021, the Museum of the Moscow Theological Academy "Church-Archaeological Cabinet" launched an educational project called "The Heart of Russian Culture". In 2022, its team will release several educational courses that will help people to better understand Christian art and to focus on some of the main masterpieces in the academic collection.

The Church-Archaeological Cabinet was founded as a classroom. However, over the 150 years of its existence, it has developed into an exceptional museum of Christian art. Its collection of some 20 thousand items includes pieces of art made of carved wood, carved bone, and mother-of-pearl. It contains unique works in different techniques — casting, Roman mosaic, and embroidery.

The Museum’s collection of ancient handwritten and printed books includes the first-ever printed Russian book of "Apostolos" (published in Moscow in 1564 by the famous Russian printer Ivan Fedorov), the Ostrog Bible of 1581, and other rare items. There are antimins, church utensils, church vestments, and personal items, which used to belong to various Russian saints and hierarchs.

There is a unique collection of icons, as well as coins, engravings, paintings, and drawings by outstanding Russian artists, such as Vassily Surikov, the Vasnetsov brothers, Mikhail Nesterov, and Vassily Polenov.

The collection of the Moscow Theological Academy Museum used to be known mostly to MTA students and researchers. Now, for the first time in history, the Moscow Theological Academy Museum is opening access to its masterpieces for anyone who is interested in Christian art.
