Metropolitan Shio (Mujiri) of Senaki and Chkhorotsku has called on the faithful to intensify their prayers for peace and reconciliation amid recent unrest in Georgia. According to the Georgian Patriarchate’s press service, he expressed deep concern over the escalation of violence and affirmed the Church’s prayers for all who have suffered during the protests.

On December 4, Metropolitan Shio led the celebrations for the Feast of the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple. In his sermon, he highlighted the Virgin Mary's example of spiritual dedication and self-sacrifice, calling on Christians to emulate her path toward inner renewal and love.

The Metropolitan addressed the nation’s ongoing turmoil, noting the critical state of the protests:

“We are all witnessing the protests in our capital with pain and concern. The situation is extremely tense. Despite repeated appeals from the Church, we have seen instances of ruthless actions that have harmed both protesters and law enforcement officers. Alarmingly, even schoolchildren have become involved, further exacerbating societal tension, which could be disastrous for our country,” he stated.

On behalf of Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, Metropolitan Shio urged clergy across the country to hold daily prayers for peace, reconciliation, and the healing of those affected.

“May the prayers of the Most Holy Theotokos strengthen us in these challenging times and bring our nation the long-awaited peace,” he concluded.

The Church continues to advocate for unity, emphasizing the need for compassion and dialogue to overcome divisions and restore stability to Georgia.
