In the village of Abryutino, Ryazan region, a cross was consecrated on the dome of the bell tower. The rank was headed by Metropolitan Mark of Ryazan and Mikhailovsky.
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin, in which the cross was consecrated, was built in 1893. Inside the church there are chapels in honor of the Great Martyr Demetrius and the Apostle John the Theologian. During the Soviet period, the church was closed, and a school was planned to open in its place, but the building remained unattended for a long time.

The bell tower for which the cross was consecrated is being built separately from the main church and has been under construction for several years. Finishing works will begin soon, and the bell tower will be decorated in the same colors as the temple itself, according to the website of the Ryazan Diocese.

This is not merely a personal jubilee, but a date of profound significance for the fullness of the Church as a whole, because episcopal consecration is the moment of assuming a special responsibility for the people of God and a witness to the Church’s fidelity to apostolic succession. The calling of the future Primate to episcopal ministry was formally established by a resolution of the Holy Synod in early March 1976; on the eve of the consecration, the rite of nomination took place, and on March 14—on the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy—at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad theological schools, was consecrated Bishop of Vyborg.

Exactly 50 years ago, on March 13, 1976, at the Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian at the Leningrad Theological Academy, the rite of nomination took place; and on the following day, March 14, the First Sunday of Great Lent, the Feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, during the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in Leningrad, the episcopal consecration of Archimandrite Kirill — the future Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ — was performed. The service was presided over by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov), whom His Holiness Patriarch Kirill calls his spiritual mentor and teacher.
