Metropolitan Herman of Kursk and Rila, in a report addressed to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia dated August 12, this year, spoke about the state of affairs in the Kursk Diocese in recent days.
"I respectfully inform Your Holiness that all 12 priests have left the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region, where fierce fighting continues between the invading troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Russian units. All of them are staying with relatives in the city of Kursk," the report of the head of the Kursk Metropolis says.
Metropolitan Herman also informed the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church that "the rector of the destroyed Gornal St. Nicholas Belogorsky monastery and 14 brothers, five of whom are in holy orders, are housed in apartments at the compound of this monastery in Kursk — Pokrovsky Church."
One of the inhabitants of this monastery, Hieromonk Simeon (Borukha), the rector of the Theotokos of the Nativity Church in the village of Guevo, Sudzhansky district, despite repeated urgent calls to leave, remained in the occupied territory. "There is no connection with him now and, unfortunately, we don't know anything about him. We hope that he is alive," the Metropolitan added.
The head of the Kursk metropolia also said that "32 priests left Korenevsky, Rylsky, Belovsky, Glushkovsky, Bolshesoldatsky districts." Some of the clergy remained in the Korenevsky and Glushkovsky districts. "Their parishes are located on the territory not occupied by the enemy," explained Metropolitan Herman. — The connection with them appears sporadically."
"Those clergymen who do not have housing and close relatives in Kursk, we place at churches, in church houses and apartments," the ruling bishop of the Kursk diocese said.
According to His Eminence, the situation remains difficult and alarming: "Now we have received a message that in the village Krasnooktyabrsky Glushkovsky district, the Ascension Chapel was destroyed by the enemy military."
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia perceives with great mental pain and sorrow the sufferings of the flock and clergy of the Kursk Metropolia.
"I share your concern and grieve with you and your flock in connection with the disaster that has befallen: the invasion of the territory of the Kursk region by the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which led to fierce fighting and human suffering," His Holiness said in the resolution on the report of the head of the Kursk Metropolis.
