On June 19, 2024, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) conducted another search at the home of Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kaniv. The search was ostensibly due to the initiation of a fourth criminal case against the archbishop. According to the press service of the Cherkasy Diocese, Metropolitan Theodosius suspects that the real reason behind the search was his refusal to leave the country as suggested by SBU officials. The search resulted in the confiscation of only one document—a copy of the Charter of the Cherkasy Diocesan Administration of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Subsequently, Metropolitan Theodosius was handed a fifth charge, accusing him of inciting interfaith hatred through social media activities, despite being under house arrest.


The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church (BPC) announced on May 20, 2024, the election of three candidates for the position of Patriarch. The candidates, selected through secret voting, are Metropolitan Gregory of Vratsa, Metropolitan Gabriel of Lovech, and Metropolitan Daniel of Vidin. The Patriarchal Election Church Council will convene on June 30, 2024, to elect the new Patriarch and Metropolitan of Sofia, with the enthronement ceremony scheduled for the same day at the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky.


The Russian Orthodox Church welcomed 167 new members in Cameroon from June 5 to June 17, 2024. The delegation from the African Exarchate visited 15 parishes across the country, baptizing 120 people and receiving 47 through chrismation. Father George distributed icons, crosses, and religious literature in French while discussing the future development of the parishes.


The Russian Orthodox Church has initiated a mission in Chad. Father George Maximov, along with clergy from the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, visited Chad to establish a new Orthodox community. A catechist was appointed, and religious literature in French was provided. A priest has been assigned to oversee the community and perform baptisms after catechization.


In Sremski Karlovci, a joint session of the Holy Synods of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR) took place. The meeting covered a wide range of topics related to inter-Orthodox relations. The ROCOR delegation participated in the celebration of Ascension.


In Belarus, the Belarusian Orthodox Church held a forum for Mercy Sisters. Participants who completed courses in Minsk, taught by doctors from Moscow's St. Alexis Hospital, received certificates. Twenty-two Mercy Sisters and volunteers received professional training as junior nurses.


Sixty ancient artifacts, including 24 church relics, will be returned to Cyprus from Germany following an agreement signed in Munich. This event concludes the long-standing case of smuggler Aydın Dikmen, who removed numerous relics from Cyprus post-1974. The Cyprus Orthodox Church hailed this as a historic and joyous occasion.


The Korean Diocese's publishing house released a prayer book in Korean. It includes various prayers and services, and was translated primarily by Joachim Sim. The prayer book, with a print run of 100 copies, will be available in church shops across the Korean Diocese.


Russian President Vladimir Putin visited North Korea and the Holy Trinity Church in Pyongyang, the country's only Orthodox church. He presented an icon of the Holy Trinity to the church. Archbishop Theophan of Korea briefed President Putin on the construction phases of the church, built in 2006.
