The Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Service has received more than 50 applications for the renovation of houses in the conflict zone. Hundreds of homes are in need of restoration.
"We have extensive experience in rebuilding houses in Donbas: hundreds of houses have already been repaired in Mariupol, Donetsk, Yasinovataya, Avdiivka and other cities of the DPR. Now Volnovakha has been included in this list. The amount of work is increasing, there are still a lot of people in need of repairs to their homes, but the number of volunteers remains the same. Therefore, we ask for help from everyone who is ready to do a good deed. No matter what your profession is, we will teach you everything on the spot. Almost 2,000 people from all over the country have already traveled — join us and come help those who need our help the most right now," said Deacon Igor Kulikov, head of the Department of Social Ministry and the Department for Cooperation with Dioceses of the Synodal Department for Charity.
Church volunteers help single elderly people, people with disabilities, and women with children repair homes. In Volnovakha, the roofs of two private houses where lonely old people live have already been repaired. Volunteers are restoring communications, replacing doors and windows, plastering walls and ceilings, and repairing roofs.
Since March 2023, the Synodal Department for Charity, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, has been organizing a recruitment of volunteer repair workers to restore private homes of civilians in the conflict zone. The volunteers of the Russian Orthodox Church have already repaired 443 houses. 1,700 repair volunteers went to Donbass. Someone takes a vacation to participate in the project. Many leave with their families, with their wives and children.
Groups of volunteers leave every week. The duration of one shift is from 7 days. Accommodation, meals and travel from Moscow are provided by the Synodal Department of Charity. With volunteers from other cities, the issue of travel to Volnovakha is solved individually. It is not necessary to have experience in construction to join the help — they will teach you everything on the spot.
