In the past 30 years Christianity has been making a big comeback in Russia. As part of the series of Christmas Lectures currently being hosted by the Patriarchate in Moscow, an exhibition of modern Christian art in Russia opened at Christ the Savior Cathedral on 25 January in the Exhibition Hall entitled “Дом Господень” or “The House of the Lord.”

The purpose of the exhibition per the exhibit’s website is:

“To introduce the participants of the Christmas readings and visitors of the "House of the Lord" exhibition to a wide range of different styles of contemporary Christian art and masters whose work is not only connected with canonical Orthodox art, but also clearly shows the author's style .”

To that end, more than 140 works will be exhibited. Visitors will be able to see the works of famous architects, icon painters, ceramic artists, mosaicists, muralists, jewelers, fashion designers of church vestments, stained glass windows, manufacturers of church utensils, artists and sculptors.

The exhibition will run until 10 February. There are some truly stunning pieces in the collection. If you are in town you really should stop by to see it. There is no entry fee.
