As a result of the torrential rains and hurricanes that took place in the Chelyabinsk region, the houses of a large number of South Ural residents were flooded, many people were left homeless. On August 1, 2024, at a meeting in Zlatoust, the bishops of all dioceses of the Chelyabinsk Metropolis decided to raise funds for victims of flooding of territories.
Metropolitan Alexy of Chelyabinsk and Miass, Bishop Zosima of Magnitogorsk and Verkhneuralsky, Bishop Peter of Zlatoust and Satka, and Bishop Pavel of Troitsk and Yuzhnouralsky appealed to caring people for help.
"Dear brothers and sisters! This summer, residents of the Southern Urals found themselves in the epicenter of an abnormal cyclone — the region was hit by heavy rains. As a result of such natural disasters, many people lost their property and were left homeless. Therefore, right now, as Orthodox Christians, we cannot stand aside and watch our neighbors suffer. Now we must do everything to alleviate the situation of the affected people. Let's fulfill our Christian duty together and help people in difficult life situations overcome the difficulties that have arisen," reads the appeal posted on the official website of the metropolis.
All funds raised will be used for humanitarian assistance to residents of the Chelyabinsk region affected by natural disasters.
