Feodor Poskochin, a nobleman in the world, was born in 1337 in the city of Volokolamsk. At the age of forty, without prior probation, St. Theodore (nephew of St. Sergius of Radonezh, later Archbishop of Rostov) was tonsured at the Simonov Monastery in Moscow, where he joined the union of friendship with St. Cyril Belozersky (commemorated on June 9/22). Here they performed the feat of salvation together in fasting and prayer and listened to the spiritual instructions of St. Sergius of Radonezh, who visited their monastery.
While fulfilling his monastic obedience, the Monk Ferapont visited the Belozersk region, which the monk loved very much. Upon the saint's return to the monastery, having received the blessing of the abbot, both friends went to Beloozero. They lived together for some time, and then, by mutual consent, Ferapont moved to a new place of exploits, 15 versts from Kirillov, between two lakes: Borodavsky and Pavsky, where he began to live as a hermit, suffering many hardships and being attacked by robbers more than once.
Over time, lovers of silence gathered to him, and in 1398, the Monk Ferapont founded a monastery, but he humbly refused the dignity of abbot. In 1408, at the request of Prince Andrey Dimitrievich of Moscow, who deeply revered the monk, the holy ascetic founded another monastery in the village of Luzhki, near Mozhaysk, in honor of the Nativity of the Virgin, in which he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite. After living in the monastery for 18 years, the Monk Ferapont died in peace in the Lord on May 27, 1426, at the age of 90.
In 1514, the incorruptible relics of the saint were found, which became famous for numerous miracles.
