The Russian Orthodox Church has inaugurated its first targeted assistance center in the Kherson region, located in the city of Skadovsk. The initiative was implemented by the Patriarchal Humanitarian Mission in collaboration with the Synodal Department for Charity and supported by the Presidential Grants Fund. The center will provide humanitarian aid and process individual requests through the church's hotline at 8-800-70-70-222.
Natalya Kuleva, coordinator of regional assistance centers for refugees, noted that the center received a request for a wheelchair on its first day of operation. "People need help with documentation, medical care, clothing, food, and supplies for bedridden patients. Meeting these needs is challenging due to ongoing shelling in the region, making the delivery of humanitarian aid to certain areas extremely dangerous," she emphasized.
The center operates from the Elijah Church in Skadovsk. In addition to the center, humanitarian aid is delivered to the region by the Synodal Department for Charity and the Special Humanitarian Center of the Crimean Metropolia. A mobile hospital operated by the Church’s St. Alexius Hospital also provides medical examinations and assistance from experienced physicians to local residents.
Similar church-led assistance centers operate in other cities, including Moscow, Severodonetsk, Mariupol, Kursk, and Belgorod. Hundreds of individuals in need contact the hotline daily for support.
According to the Synodal Department for Charity's website, the project in Skadovsk is part of the "Humanitarian Patriarchal Mission" grant program. This program focuses on aiding civilians and refugees affected by military conflict, addressing their immediate and ongoing needs.
