Volunteers from the Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Service have restored 427 homes for the elderly and people with disabilities in Mariupol, Donetsk, Yasinovataya, Avdiivka, Dokuchaevsk, Khartsizsk, Horlivka, and Volnovakha. 1,624 people from all over Russia took part in the project, from Kaliningrad to Primorsky Krai. They include an astronaut, a long-distance captain, a triathlete, artists, architects, journalists, mountain climbers, pharmacists, and business leaders. A separate women's team came, one of the volunteers was a candidate of physico—mathematical sciences. There was also a team of students from MGIMO. Foreigners also came — a Serb, a Finn, a Canadian, a Cameroonian. The oldest volunteer is 85 years old, the youngest is ten years old, he came with his parents.
"There are still a lot of dilapidated houses in Donbas, where the elderly, women with children, and people with disabilities live. Some have been living with a broken roof and broken windows for more than a year," said Deacon Igor Kulikov, head of the Social Ministry Department of the Synodal Department of Charity. — A house is a place where people arrange their life and comfort, raise children, build their lives. It is very important to return this feeling of security to those in need. Over the past two years, we have accumulated a lot of experience in restoring private housing, but now there are not enough people."
Volunteers are engaged in repairing roofs, floors, restoring communications and interior decoration, replacing doors and windows, plastering walls, ceilings and slopes of private residential buildings for the elderly and people with disabilities. No special skills are required. In addition to construction volunteers, car volunteers and cooks are also needed. The duration of one shift is from seven days.
The work of volunteers is organized by the Synodal Department for Charity, which provides free meals, accommodation and travel from Moscow. Volunteers travel to the conflict zone every week — you can choose a convenient time of the trip depending on your own capabilities.
