Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall” [Pr. 16:18].  Therefore, guard your thoughts from pride and arrogance, and you will not fall.  Yet what are we most often careless about?  About our thoughts.  Thoughts are allowed to rave with no control, with no care of bridling them, of directing them to something useful and reasonable.  In the meantime, the enemy comes near and plants evil into our heart through this raving of thoughts, seduces it and compels to sin.

Thus, without even noticing that, we get ready for evil, having been trapped by the enemy. At this point we have two choices: either obey him and follow the evil desires of the captive heart ─ or to struggle.  But the trouble is that so few resolve to struggle, while most of us, submissive as slaves, choose to do evil.
