Acts 20:7-12; Jn. 14:10-21
“Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do” [Jn. 14:13]. What a great comfort in this promise ─ and yet how few take advantage of it! Very few keep this in their minds. Some don’t even understand it and reject it altogether.
Why so? Because they have no love of the Lord and do not follow His commandments. The infidelity of their hearts to the Lord prevents any boldness in prayer to Him, just like a bad servant would not dare to ask his master for anything, knowing that he has earned no credit.
Our customary daily prayers to the Lord contain supplications of amazing magnitude and importance; we read them day after day, but there is quite a distance from mere reading to praying and pleading. We cannot stand with a genuine prayer before the Lord and beseech Him with boldness unless our conscience does not accuse us of infidelity.
