The Ascension of the Lord
Acts 1:1-12; Lk. 24:36-53

St. Paul says the following about the power of the Lord’s Ascension: “When He ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men” [Eph. 4:8]. The Lord has given us all the fruits of His righteousness and all the treasures of His goodness. This is, indeed, captivity, a trophy of a victory. The flow of His gifts to the mankind has begun with the descent of the Holy Spirit, Who ever since abides in the Church and gives everyone according to one’s needs, taking His gifts from the same trophy of the victory.

Everyone is welcome to come ant take; but you ought to prepare a safe treasure box ─ that is, your pure heart ─ and have clean hands to receive the gifts ─ that is, your unflinching faith. Search with hope, and pray with resolve.

I sincerely thank all of you for praying for me. I know that this prayer is daily, the whole Church prays, and, probably, without this prayer it would be impossible to carry out the Patriarchal ministry. But when they pray for me on this day, a personal day, with which the very appearance of a person in life is connected, then, I think, this prayer is heard by the Lord, and help is poured out on the one for whom they pray. And through those present here, I thank all of you now, my dear bishops, fathers, brothers and sisters, who today, all over the face of our earth, in all the fullness of our Church, have been offering up prayers for the Patriarch.
