The Fourth Sunday of Lent
Heb. 6:17-20; Mk. 9:17-31
In the beginning of the Sermon of the Mount which is called the Beatitudes [Mt. 5:1-12] the Lord shows us the condition of a heavenly heart. It includes humility ─ “Blessed are the poor in spirit…”; sorrow and contrition ─ “Blessed are they that mourn…”; meekness and kindness ─ “Blessed are the meek…”; uncompromising honesty ─ “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness”; perfect kindness ─ “Blessed are the merciful…”; purity ─ “Blessed are the pure in heart…”; placidity and fraternity ─ “Blessed are the peacemakers…”; steadfast endurance of afflictions, slander and persecution for the Christian faith and life ─ “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake”.
If you seek heavens, make sure to become just like this. You will then be ready to inherit paradise in the age to come, as well as foretaste it in the present life.
