Acts 18:22-28; Jn. 12:36-47
“Lord, who hath believed our report?” [Is. 53:1] ─ the Prophet Isaiah laments in astonishment. And now it would be reasonable to cry out: “Who sincerely believes Thy word, O God?”
Nearly everyone is veering astray. By and large, people are silent about their unbelief, but most of them have gone sideways in the heart. Why so? Because people seek faithlessness; the demand for faithlessness has risen to cover those inner desires of the human heart which disagree with the Christian faith. That’s the root cause of the evil.
It is not human reason which is the enemy of faith, but a corrupt heart. The reason should be blamed only for giving in to the heart, for setting itself up not upon the principles of truth, but upon the desires of the heart. In this case, strong arguments for the truth seem worthless, while any trivial objection against it grows into a mountain. In general, man’s rational power gets confused and blinded, so he does not and cannot see the truth, no matter what you tell of show him.
