Sunday of the Prodigal Son
1Cor. 6:12-20; Lk. 15:11-32

This Sunday of the Prodigal Son tells us of so many important things!  It tells us of our peaceful bliss in the house of the Heavenly Father, of our wild rush away from His care to unrestrained freedom, of the wealth we inherit from Him despite our disobedience, of our recklessly wasting it on all kinds of wickedness, and of our utter destitution as a result.  Further down, however, it tells us how a man changes his mind, “comes to himself” [Lk. 15:17], contemplates and decides to return to his All-merciful Father, how he travels back home, how he is received there with love and restored to his original state.

And who will not find here a worthwhile lesson for himself?!  Are you staying at Father’s home? don’t rush out to freedom: see what it has brought about!  Have you run away, wasting your inheritance? stop it now.  Are you in trouble, having squandered all you have had? Make a choice to return and quickly come home: true mercy, former love and comfort are awaiting you there.

This latter step is the most important, but there isn’t much more to say about it: everything has been said, clearly and to the point.  Come to yourself, make a decision, arise and hurry to your Father.  His embrace is open for you.
